A new green price list.
For my new site Katana Kreations
One of my projects was to create a new price list that would be constantly up to date.
Ok why explain it again here it is:
http://katanak.no-ip.org/Projects.html
It currently only supports green items and probably still needs alot of debugging.
Now im too lazy to build the price list myself so get uploading :P.

few suggestions, first, users like to be told something has been done behind the scenes so maybe a message telling them the info they have submited has went through OK.
Second, i think with average price(which cut the price i inputted in half when i submited) is a good idea once alot of data has been entered but it'd be better to also display maybe "last price data", so items with not much data will still show a good sum of gold rather than half the price it should be sold
n now that uv pushed it out to the public eyes, its always good to start thinking about making the frontend alil more pleasing to the eyes.
and not to be all negative its a pretty damn good, does what it says on the tin which is always nice to see.

Yeah, I gave this a look. It's an excellent idea; just needs a little work, that's all. Pretty it up a little and add some dialogue boxes...then maybe see if you can get it linked to the Green Items Price List in the PC forum. Hell yeah, this has the potential to be awesome!
Especially with all the green items you know have to be coming in chapter 2. It would be great if this system was live and effective before chapter 2. Keep up the good work.

I don't know if thats just an error with the site, or someone has raged it, but it looks to me that everything has had 1 evaluation of 0g, the prices look a bit screwed up from that, anything with 2 votes is roughly half value, and anything with 1 vote is 0g.

Yea divinus the problem is its finding the average for all entrys for that item e.g. the default is 0 so if som1 adds 1000 it calculates the average as 500. It should even out after afew entrys but i might have to find away round that.

Average price:3.07445734562E+18g
Get rid of scientific notation.
Don't expect the price to average out over time for that initial 0. Get rid of that default price. If you can't do that then reset that initial 0 to the first update the item recieves.
I would recomend calculating by taking the 12 most recent updates, throwing out the highest and the lowest and then averaging the remaining 10.
Allow 1 update per IP address per item per day.

Couple of points that might be handy.
Ive sold a few green items recently, and only taken a partial cash payment for them.
As an example, i recently sold The Stonehart, which netted me 15k and two other green items.
Since theres no option to add in trades for items, im forced to enter 15k for the cost of the item, even though i got more for it. Perhaps it might be worth establishing a 3rd field in which you can select green items offered in trade. Im sure you could script a database look up to factor in the current price of green items, so that instead of seeing
Sold "The Stonehart" for "15k plus Villnars Glove and Villnars Claw" you can instead have
Sold "The Stonehart" for "35k part trade" (15k cash + 10k item + 10k item)
(bear in mind ive just thropwn together some prices and items that came to mind, they arent real values.)
Another feature you might want to add is perhaps displaying, or adding the option to display the last 10, 50 or 2million sales values entered on the system, in date order, so that more "shrewd" market traders can track price changes over time.
I'd also add a much needed feature.... Regionalisation. No offence but ive noticed that prices on US servers tend to be a little higher than EU ones, and so on. Allowing people the option to select the area they made the trade in allows others to more accurately work out what an item is likely to cost in the UK, or the US or whatever, rather than relying on a general median.
Other than that, it seems to be coming along well, and i wish you all the best with your project

Well I took a look at your price list and honestly I see most of the items selling for much cheaper when I'm in LA dist 1. Not sure where you're getting your #'s from.

It'd be nice if it parsed that a little nicer so that numbers were either whole numbers or at least to less significant digits.
Also, a better way of finding the avgerage price wouldn't just be to average every result ever. You should take in input, and as long as the input is (for instance) less then a month old it gets calculated into the average, but as info grows older in the database it should be removed from the calculation. (IE: Prices subitted more then a month ago don't get included in the calculation of average).
Also, it'd be nice if the Green item pages included an image of the item and the stats. If you want any help with this you can reference www.guildwiki.org or if you need any help throw me a PM and we'll see what we can work out.

For this problem the way you should calculate the avergage should be.
submit[]; //the var with all the submittions
n; //the number of submittions
x; //the var that holds current market price
for(i<n; i=0;i++){
x += submit[i]; //sum of all submittions
}
if(n>0){
x = x/n; //average of all the submits
}
else{System.out("No price submitted yet.");}
Then just print out x as your price. If there are no currently submitted prices then n =0 so the price doesn't need to be calculated, if there is 1 submittion the price is price/1 which = the price, and any number above that it gets correctly calculated.
Edit: I know that you don't keep them all in an array like that so that you can track IP, but the same theory would work with a list of values.
